This is the only Teen to Teen peer counseling network in the world.   It was founded in 2003 by the Kristin Brooks Hope Center which owns and operates the National Hopeline Network 1-800-SUICIDE.  Annually the NHN routes over 200,000 calls from youth across the US to over 141 certified crisis centers.  The YAH! was created to mirror the success of the NHN but route teen calls to their peers instead of adults who are perceived by many teens as being unable to relate to the issues facing teens today.  The idea was to improve on the call completion and the quality of the outcomes of each call.  Teens are less likely to hang up the phone when they hear another teen answer the call.  

We also found in working with thousands of teens who came out to the Take Action Tours over the last four years that teens would not call a hotline with the word "suicide" in it due to the stigma or the fact that their issue was not related to suicide.

The YAH! was a direct response to the efforts of SUBCITY Records and all the people involved in the Take Action Tour.  TAT CD compilations and Kevin Lyman's Warped Tour outreach through the Kevin Says Take Action stage.
